Frequently Asked Questions Don't be hesitant to ask questions! Most people have questions about camps, especially if this is your first experience with a camp. You SHOULD have questions. Read through some of our frequently asked questions and answers below. If you don't find what you're looking for, contact us. We'll be happy to assist you. 1) When is check in? All camps check in on a Sunday at 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
2) When do you check out? Every camp has a parent demonstration of stroke drills on the last day. This demonstration takes 30 to 40 minutes and at the end of that time, the camp ends. You may check out of your dorm directly after the parent demonstration. Camp Checkout is generally at 4:00 pm.
3) May I check in or out early or late? We understand that our campers are coming from long distances, swim meets, family reunions, and other sporting activities. There is no problem in checking in a couple hours later or even a day later. Just notify the camp office and we will make arrangements to fit your particular situation.
4) May parents visit campers while at camp? Yes, we encourage parents to come and visit and watch the instruction and visit with their child(ren).
5) What is the camp swimmer/coach ratio? Mid-States Swim Camps likes to keep their ratio 10 swimmers per 1 coach, however, when swimmers sign up late, that ratio may change to around 12 swimmers per 1 coach, due to the fact that it is hart to hire staff in the last two weeks prior to camp.
6) Are swimmers taught in a group or individually? Instruction of drills is done in a group. After practice we encourage all swimmers to ask for individual instruction with any coach of their choosing. All our staff is very willing and enjoys working individually with campers that are highly motivated.
7) What is a typical schedule like? Schedules are made up on how many campers are attending camp and their ability level. We also have to take into consideration the University's pool hours that they have assigned to our camp.
8) Should the campers bring linen?
9) May we have 3 to a room? It is usually the university's policy that only 2 beds are in each room, except Camp Whitcomb. Mid-States Swim Camps tries to honor all requests of roommates the best they can following the University guidelines. Mid-States Swim Camps will also try to room their teammates next to each other if they can't room together.
10) What other activities are there for swimmers to do? Each camp site has different recreational facilities for our camp to use. In most cases there is volleyball, basketball, tennis, games rooms that are available to campers to use on their off time. Some camps also sponsor the famous dance that wraps up the camp on Wednesday night that all campers enjoy. |
