Plan now to be successful later!  To succeed in school, college, and in the workforce, we must adapt to changing working environments, manage our time effectively, study efficiently, think independently, and make difficult decisions. At the same time, we are often required to collaborate and cooperate with others, cope with pressure and take responsibility for our learning and actions. The purpose of this course is to help students actively understand, develop, and apply these skills and strategies.

Sports & Entertainment Marketing

LET’S GET READY TO RUUMMMBLLLLEEEE!!!!!!!!  Sports and Entertainment Marketing is a specialized course for students with a career interest in the fields of sports, recreation, and entertainment.  In addition to a marketing overview, this course is designed to provide knowledge in advertising, sales, event marketing and communications.  Major areas that will be covered are professional sports, theme parks, TV and movie industries, concert and arena productions, and theme restaurants.  Students will also obtain an understanding of the career options available within the fields of sports and entertainment.  This course is project driven, designed to give students opportunities to learn what it would be like to work in the sports and entertainment industries. 
Web Design & Development

Grade:  10-12

Pre-requisite:  Desktop Publishing

This class is prepared to provide concepts and guidelines for students of the World Wide Web who wish to design websites to be easily navigated, logically developed, and pleasing to the eye. Students will learn about some of the basic considerations of good Web design. The course will focus on design and construction using Dreamweaver and Flash, along with Web project management and performance evaluations. We will also cover such topics as site layout, color schemes, the use of images, consistent navigation, and how publishing for the Web is different than publishing for paper-based documents.

Information Processing

Grade:  9-12
First OR Second Semester
½ CreditPre-requisite:  NONE

Information Processing will introduce/reacquaint students with the computer keyboard and voice recognition software. Both touch and voice methods will be used in the class.  Document preparation will also be stressed.  Documents learned include letters, reports, memos, tables, outlines, etc.   Most features of Microsoft Word will be learned.  Students will have the option to take the Microsoft Office Specialist—Word exam.

Computer Literacy

Internet, ISP, RAM, ROM, modem, network, Unix, bus ports, GBs or MBs, MHz???  What does it all mean?  The course is designed to educate students about the ins and outs of today’s computers and their future in our lives.  Hardware, software, Internet, and programming will be studied.  This course is a hands-on, skill-based course.

Computer Applications

Computer Apps is a course for students looking for higher level computer functions including databases, spreadsheets, advanced word processing, presentation, and internet applications.  Students will work toward the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification.
Advanced Computer Applications

This course is designed around the MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialist) Certification.  Students will become skilled in the multimedia uses of Microsoft Office.  Internet, graphics, and professional document design will be focuses of this course.

Desktop Publishing

Pre-requisite:  Information Processing is  recommended This course is designed to acquaint students with personal computer publishing techniques that include an introduction to layout design, font styles, page arrangement, publishing terminology, graphics, photos, and digital camera techniques.  Desktop publishing will use a multimedia approach using the Joshua Tree Principle.

Advanced Desktop Publishing
Grade:  10-12

Second Semester

Pre-requisite:  Desktop Publishing

Students will further develop the use of the Joshua Tree Principle through real world applications, including multiple page documents, and picture/graphic development.  This course will utilize the following programs:  Microsoft Word, Publisher, and Adobe PageMaker.

Accounting
Grade:  10-12

Pre-requisite:  NONE

Accounting will prepare students for entry-level accounting positions and for further study of accounting.  Basic accounting concepts and procedures are introduced and developed.  Business and personal money management strategies are also discussed.  Computerized Accounting basics will also be explored.

Advanced Accounting
Grade:  11-12

Pre-requisite:  Accounting

Automated accounting concepts will be the focus of this course.  Corporate accounting and auditing will also be explored.  Maintenance and upgrading of accounting systems will be emphasized.

Introduction to Business

The major focus of Introduction to Business is the organization of the American Enterprise system and its effect on the financial futures of the student.  Basic economics, savings and investing strategies, check writing and banking, entrepreneurship, and government influences will be major topics.

International Business
Grade:  10-12

Pre-requisite:  Introduction to Business is recommended

America’s future is rooted in a global economy.  This course will take a look at what it takes to be successful overseas.  Trade agreements, e-Business, international marketing, travel, customs and traditions, etc. will be major topics of discussion.  

Business Management

Students will be provided with opportunities to design and develop a business from scratch.  Planning, organization, development, and the management of the daily operations of business will be emphasized.  Entrepreneurship, business laws, marketing and promotion, along with e-commerce will be explored.  The sports and entertainment industry will be used for exploration of unique, professional, and excellent examples of how to gain a consumer edge.  

Business Procedures

This course is designed to prepare the student for successful employment in any position.  Topics covered include business careers, employment forms and preparation, payroll and benefits, tax preparation, work attitudes, human relations, communication skills, organization and time management.  Dragon Naturally Speaking (voice recognition software) will be taught though this class  An Intranet simulation will also be incorporated into the class to promote skills needed in Corporate America.

Business Co-op
Grade:  11-12

Pre-requisite:  NONE

Students will be placed at a local business for workplace skills.  Students doing so may leave school during 8th hour for employment and will work toward WI State Certification of Business Skills.  (This certification allows students to receive college/technical college credit for business-related topics and/or immediate placement into a professional position).

Personal Finance
Grade:  11-12

Pre-requisite:  NONE

Personal Finance is designed to give students an understanding of important financial issues that affect an individual’s daily life and future.  Understanding these issues are essential in today’s society.  This class begins with an introduction on getting paid and personal and income taxes.  Budgets and record keeping, as well as checking accounts, banking, and credit will serve as the most significant part of the class.  Saving and investing, credit, and insurance will also be covered.

Business Law

Pre-requisite:  Intro to Business

This class is designed to give students an understanding of important issues in business and personal law, as well as how these laws affect an individual’s daily life and future.  Understanding these laws can greatly enrichstudents’ lives at an individual level, in addition to their lives as a contributing member of the business world.  This class begins with an introduction to the law, civil and criminal law and our legal system.  Contracts, which serve as a foundation of business and employment law are also covered, with the remaining units covering topics students are likely to encounter in their daily life and in their future.

No experience necessary! Learn all the tricks ON THE JOB! Do you learn best hands on? Do you like to try new things and make decisions? Then Publications is for you! Successful publications are everywhere! Newspapers, magazines, brochures, books, etc! You will spend time in this class developing real-world publications. The high school yearbook and school newspaper would be focused upon; however, other publications for community businesses, school district, and self will be added.
